*GENERAL OBSERVATIONS: He sleeps in a crate at night and foster puts him in the crate if they are out of the home. He never barks, whines or cries in it. Just settles in and goes to sleep. Not really leash trained, working on it . He walks like a typical bulldog, when he doesn't want to go, he just plants himself. He is getting used to putting the harness on and off. He doesn't get car sick or anything but just doesn't seem thrilled about it. He would not be suitable for a family that travels or wants to bring a dog lots of places. He tested foster parent in the beginning trying to be dominant, but foster did not allow bad behavior. He loves attention and wants to be petted all the time, so if you ignore him he stops.
Foster does not have any other dogs, but previous owner reported he is good with them. In the neighborhood and at the vet, he wasn't that interested in other dogs. Fenced yard is only necessary now because he doesn’t walk consistently on a leash. He also loves to roam around the yard checking things out.
Extremely food motivated. Loves to be glued to foster side all day. He would be happy in a home where the owners work from home or aren't away much. He loves people and being petted a lot! Didn't know any basic commands, but he is easy to train because he is food motivated. We are working on allergy issues by changing food, starting fish oil and chlorhexidine wipes. Enjoys playing with balls and sometimes chews a bone but not often. Not a fan of baths, but if you are firm with him he will tolerate it. He did really well at the vet. He's really like a giant teddy bear that just wants to be with someone. Anyone who adopts Butler would be very lucky!
UPDATE:
Butler is doing wonderfully in his foster home and continues to prove what a fantastic dog he is! Since starting his diet, he’s slimmed down to 69 lbs and is feeling great — he can now hop onto the sofa like a jackrabbit. He is an incredibly easygoing and tolerant boy. Butler happily allows cleaning of his paws, wrinkles, and eyes without any fuss. Baths are not exactly his favorite activity, but he patiently cooperates. He loves to nap, enjoys a relaxed lifestyle, and as an added bonus, he doesn’t snore! Butler has also made great progress with wearing a harness. While he’s still more of a leisurely stroller than an exercise partner, he’s improving all the time. He’s a calm, low-maintenance companion who would thrive in a home looking for a laid-back best friend rather than a jogging buddy. He no longer jumps on people, though he will gently tap you with his paw if you don’t pet him quickly enough — one of his many charming quirks. Toys don’t interest him much, although he occasionally enjoys chewing on a Nylabone. We suspect Butler may have some hearing deficits, as he does not react to loud noises and can startle easily if approached unexpectedly. Thankfully, his sweet nature and attentiveness make this easy to manage, and he already responds well to hand signals like “sit.” His skin and coat have improved tremendously as well. Like many dogs in Florida, Butler appears to have seasonal allergies and occasionally wakes up with some eye discharge, which he calmly allows to be cleaned. Otherwise, his coat is now thick, healthy, and beautiful. After the typical three-week adjustment period, Butler truly settled in and became an absolute dream dog. He has no bad behaviors and is simply a gentle, loving companion looking for the right forever home.
